Narrow Shoe Shopping in the Nude!
Now that got your attention, didn’t it?
This Spring and Summer, the nude shoe trend continues. The nude or neutral shoe is an excellent alternative to a black shoe and works really well with both bold and more subdued colors in your outfit choices. It makes for a subtle yet sophisticated statement.
We went narrow shoe shopping “in the nude” recently, and we’re sharing our favorite finds:
Nude shoes we like best in our narrow width:

Abbie writes:
Why,when I pull up a shoe that interests me (particularly Cole Haan) is it not available in NARROW?!
Abbie, thanks for letting us know!!!!!
It has come to our attention that new filters that were put in place are not catching subtle differences in shoe names. Cole Haan, for instance, has a shoe called Air Talia Pump, which isn’t available in narrow (we’ll be taking it down) but the Air Talia Mid Pump, is available in narrow. The filter didn’t recognize the difference in names and the incorrect shoe was added. We are very sorry for the confusion and will be working as quickly as possible to rectify it. We hope that you and our other patrons will be patient with us as we go through each brand to make sure we’re only including narrows on our site! Again, thanks for writing to let us know!
Where are the 3A width shoes?
Barbara writes:
[H}ow about helping those of us with [3A] triple A & [4A} quadruple A widths? My daughter needs 3A; I need 4A.... some of the better dress shoes jump from AA to AAAA -- fine for me but not for my daughter. I've spent 2 hours shopping for black low-heel pumps for her in 8.5 AAA; [S]he needs stability, so she can’t wear open heel, ballet style, no support, etc. She’s in her 30s so doesn’t want to look like an older woman, but she needs support across the middle & needs a low heel. Very frustrating! I’ve lived with this problem for more than 60 years; I just didn’t want to wish it onto my daughter & (probably) my little granddaughter! (My mother even wore a quintuplet!)
Oh Barbara, how we can relate! It is frustrating that 3A width (AAA) are so hard to find and yes, it does boggle the mind as to why the manufacturers would jump from 2A (AA) width to 4A (AAAA) width!
Here are a few suggestions for your daughter that we hope she’ll like and we hope they are youthful enough for her. We know how frustrating it is to find stylish and youthful looking slim shoes–especially with lower heels!

This cross-strap pump is available in black in a soft kidskin leather or microfiber. We chose the Jamie because of the cross-strap which will keep your daughter’s foot in the shoe and should help with the support she needs. The padded footbed should add comfort. It has a flexible sole which should make for easier walking, too. Undoubtedly you’ve both found, as we have, that some of the harder soles can be particularly uncomfortable to walk in and stand on even for short periods of time. Best all the heel is a very manageable 1 1/ 2 inches!

Another option might be the Mila low. We couldn’t have described the product better. Here’s what the people at endless.com have to say about it: This Mila wedge… has the perfect blend of sensibility and style. In a pretty and patent leather upper, this slip-on has a flexible gored vamp, a sturdy covered wedge, and a leather lined insole for unbelievable amounts of comfort. We chose the Mila because of it’s low wedge — wedges can offer better stability than a heel very often, the patent leather — which dresses it up (and because we happen to love patent leather) the criss-cross design in the front, which is both attractive and once again, keeps the foot in the shoe. Your daughter might have to try this one on with a variety of dresses, skirts and pants to see what it looks best with. We think it would look great with a short skirt and black tights during the colder weather and definitely would work well with trousers and even jeans. Another suggestion for wearing them with jeans would be a cute black top, a black patent leather belt.

Lastly, we thought of the Munro American Somerset. This one is a tricky pick for you because Munro American jumps from 2A – 4A, no 3A. However, it’s been our experience that Munro American shoes 2A width run so narrow that they can fit a 3A width well. In fact, many 2A width customers take out the insert that Munro provides because it makes the shoe that much more snug!
We also chose it because it’s very attractive on the foot. The image above, unfortunately doesn’t do it justice. It’s pretty, the heel has a great shape and it’s comfortable! It would work well for dresses, skirts of all lengths, slacks and even a trouser style jean!
6 AA High Heels That Can Be Shipped to the UK
Manon from the UK wrote to us recently to ask for our help in finding high heeled shoes in her difficult to find narrow size 6AA. She is looking for “any high heeled shoes (2 1/2″ or higher), sandals and wedges, anything fashionable and comfortable.”
As hard as it is to find narrow shoes and especially small narrow shoes in small sizes for women here in the States, it’s even more difficult to find small narrow shoes for women in the United Kingdom. The other challenge is to find merchants who are willing to send shoes over seas. Shoebuy.com and Nordstrom are two of them. Here are the shoes we selected for Manon that we hope will be just what she’s looking for.
From Shoebuy.com we suggested shoes from Bruno Magli, Drew and Ros Hommerson
To view more shoes in Manon’s 6 AA size click here 6 AA Narrow Mid-Heel Womens Dress Shoes.
We were also very happy to suggest to Manon these Cole Haan, Naturalizer,Trotters, VANELi, Via Spiga shoes from Nordstrom, as they also ship internationally.
We’re looking forward to finding out which shoes will work best for her! Happy Shopping Manon!
Celebrity Style the Narrow Shoe Way
Matt Lauer’s Shoe Style - Remember that television show “The Look for Less,” which recreated a high-end look at a low-end price? We thought we’d create our own variation on that theme in our newest blog category: Celebrity Style the Narrow Shoe Way-The Look in Narrow. With the help of our new sister blog, called Celebrity Style the Narrow Shoe Way, this new “look in narrow” is all about finding celebrity style inspiration from the narrow shoes on up. Now, not only can we show you our picks for narrow width shoe alternatives to the shoes the celebs wear (which, of course typically aren’t narrow), we can inspire you with a lower-end alternative to their stylish outfits, as well.
The Look in Narrow: Matt Lauer
We like Matt Lauer here at The Narrow Shoe.com. We think he’s great on the Today Show, he has a great style sense and we think he might be “one of us,” a person who wears a narrow shoe width! Look at these pics and you might just agree. We’ve read that Zegna is his clothing designer. If he has as much trouble buying shoes as we do, Zegna might design his shoes for him, too. However, if he were to buy shoes from our site, here’s what we’d suggest for him!
04/24/12: Journalist Matt Lauer attends the TIME 100 Gala celebrating TIME’S 100 Most Influential People in the World list party at the Time Warner Center in New York.
Pictured here in an elegant black suit and black oxfords (instead of the brown one’s he favors on the show) here’s what we’d choose for him:

At the Today 60th Anniversary Show Celebration on January 13, 2012, Matt, Ann, Natalie and Al posed together. Matt and Al seem to have the same signature style dark suits with brown oxfords.
Narrow Feet Love Mary Janes!
![]()
When a girl’s got a narrow foot, Mary Janes can be her best friend! It’s all in the strap — straps are a must have to hold that narrow foot in place! We typically associate Mary Janes’ with little girls, with their traditional rounded toe box and very flat heel.

The Mary Jane has grown-up, however, and for the last two seasons has been looking quite sophisticated and stylish! Women’s Mary Janes have pointed toes, platforms and flat, low, medium, high and even sky-high heels varying from skinny stilettos to chunkier stacked heels. Yet, just like the Mary Janes you may have worn as a child, the grown up version has one or two straps across the middle of the top part of the foot. [Click here to find this single strap pair of Mary Janes along with other narrow Mary Janes here at Zappos.com and Click here to find this double strapped narrow women’s Mary Jane and more at Endless.com.
Now for a little shoe history!
Ever wondered how Mary Janes got their name? Well, back in 1904 an executive from the Brown Shoe Company met the creator of a much loved comic strip called Buster Brown.
He purchased the rights to the name from him. Though many
people mistakenly think the company was named after the character, that’s just a coincidence, as the brand was created 25 years after that fateful meeting. While in the comic strip Buster is wearing the iconic shoe, the name was based on Buster’s sister, Mary Jane who can also be seen wearing it, as well.
The company made marketing history when they hired a series of actors, dressed them up as the comic book characters and took them on the road, selling the Buster Brown brand as they performed in theaters, department stores and shoe stores. How’s that for a “walk down memory lane?”

Our Favorite ’70′s Inspired Narrow Women’s Summer Sandals
With the ’70′s influence very prevalent in shoe and clothing this Summer, we’re seeing a lot of platforms, cork, espadrilles and wedges in women’s narrow sandals this season. The look is definitely reminiscent of the 1970′s yet you’ll definitely see 2011 flare in each of them.
Two of our favorite ’70′s inspired looks from Stuart Weitzman’s Alex and the Alexlo espadrille sandals. In fact
Rachel McAdams was RECENTLY SPOTTED in them!
The Alex, pictured here in Swamp Crochet, is a wedge espadrille with a crocheted textile upper and an adjustable ankle strap with buckle closure, along with a Jute-trimmed platform wedge and a rubber sole. Heel Height is 5 inches with the Platform Height at 1 inch. Available in Swamp Crochet, Nero Crochet, Ivory Crochet, Chocolate Crochet and Gilt African Raffia.
The Alexlo also boasts a Crocheted fabric upper, adjustable ankle strap with buckle closure and Jute-trimmed a platform wedge but the heel height at 2 1/ 2 inches and platform height of 1 1/ 2 inches offers a slightly different look and feel. It’s available in three colors: Swamp Crochet (pictured here), Chocolate Crochet and Nero Crochet.
Find these and more great Stuart Weitzman sandals, shoes and boots at Jildor Shoes and at Zappos.com (free shipping both ways) and at Footnotesonline (FREE Shipping and Easy Exchanges on Stuart Weitzman (and more!) Minimum Order $150.
Other ’70′s inspired sandals that we liked were this easy to wear slingback espadrille with it’s chic peep-toe. It would look great with white slacks and an blue striped top for an inspired nautical look (so in right now!) or with skirts, dresses, shorts, actually just about any outfit you can put together. Versatile and fun!
We also are in love with these chic patent leather sandal. Doesn’t it just scream ’70′s style with it’s square heel? We think it would look great with a maxi dress or skirt (a dress or a short skirt would look “dy-no-mite,” too!
Find both of these great sandals and 153 other narrow sandals with FREE shipping and returns at Zappos.com.

Our site owner remembers the narrow gold ballerina flats she brought on her honeymoon (They looked very much like the gold narrow ballerina flats pictured here, but hers didn’t have the pretty floral accent at the toe). She and her husband went to Bermuda for 8 glorious days! “When I’m feeling stressed I close my eyes and think back to walking to the beach in those dainty flats and suddenly I see the beautiful pink sand at my feet and the gorgeous turquoise blue water in front of me and I’m calm once again!”, she says.
Narrow Dressy Mules in Fun Prints & Colors
Just got a facebook wall post about Mules from Vogue.com entitled Most Wanted:Mule Tide. According to Vogue, they’re back this season in bright and bold patterns. The mules featured are elegant, fun, colorful, a bit pricey and as you might guess, not necessarily narrow. So, we decided to do some hunting for some elegant, fun , colorful and not so pricey mules in our narrow width.
Here’s what we found:

The only image we could find of the Betina mule (also referred to as a slide) was in black but when you click on this stylish slide you’ll see that it is also available in gold, silver and red. Its heart-shaped collar, over-sized bow embellishment, subtle leopard print and elongated toe make this a lovely choice that is not only elegant but fun!

The Glinda Slide offers a fun punch of color and pattern. This mule features a playful print and a a not-too-high heel and a pointed toe which elongates your silhouette. A scalloped cutout at the vamp and a tie accent enhance the look.
The Angy pump is shaped with a tapered squared toe and a unique rectangular heel. Leather and mesh combine together in this sophisticated slide with a look all it’s own. The simple bow adds the perfect finishing touch. Available in beige, white, silver and black, this slide (or mule — whichever term you prefer to use) offers a different look in each individual color.
This Ivory Boa Print slide pairs a contemporary pointy toe with a subtle western-inspired style. It’s crepe elastic upper with stitch detailing features a leather toe and heel quarter accents, padded footbed lined with leather and a leather sole with non-skid island with only a 2 3/4″ heel! Also available in Black Antique Patent, this mule is offers an interesting twist on the typical mule style with the interesting detail on the front.
So, whether you call your mules mules or you call them slides, we hope you enjoy these narrow mule or narrow slide finds!
