How to Convert Your Shoe Size from Child Size to Adult Size

Here is how to convert your shoe size from Child Size to Adult Size in inches.   Manufacturers use different lasts to construct their shoes, and sizing may vary accordingly.

Make sure you are standing, wearing the socks or stockings you will wear with your new shoes.

Step on a piece of paper and trace around each foot with a pencil.

Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the length of each foot.

The measurement of the larger foot is the one you should go by to find your proper size.

Using the following charts, convert your inches measurement to your U.S. shoe size or Euro shoe size. Using Zappos Size Conversion Chart we’ll break it down for you using the following examples:

Example: Girl Youth Size 7 to Women’s Size:

  • Go to Chart 2 Youth Sizes and look across the size 7 row in US Sizes and you’ll see that a size 7 youth foot is 9.75″.
  • Go to Chart 1 and look for 9.75″ in the Inches column. We see that 9.75″ measures somewhere in between a Size 8.5 and a 9 on the Women’s size chart.
  • You always want to fit your larger size foot and the best way to do that is to measure both feet.
  • In this case she is in-between sizes so it would be best to order both the 8.5 and the 9 to see which size fits better.

Youth Size 7 = Women’s Size 8.5-9

Women’s Shoe Heels & the Economy

Heels Head Lower, Is the Economy Heading Higher?  Did you read the article on CNN.com about women’s heel heights and what they may forecast for the economy?   According to the article, research suggests that typically, women’s heels stay high during a downturn…

Here’s the skinny (some narrow shoe fun with a pun!)

In the 1920s, low-heeled flapper shoes gave way to high-heel pumps and platforms during the Great Depression.

In the 1970s oil crisis, platforms came back en vogue as the low-heeled sandals of the late 1960s were cast aside.

In the 1990s, the low, thick heels of the “grunge” period were replaced by “Sex and the City”-inspired stilettos just as the dot-com bubble burst.

This may not be the case, though, during this one, according to the article.

“Usually, in an economic downturn, heels go up and stay up — as consumers turn to a more flamboyant fashions as a means of fantasy and escape,” says Trevor Davis, a consumer product expert with International Business Machines’ Global Business Services unit, in a press release.  IBM conducted a study of social media posts and is predicting that women’s heel heights, which are currently in nosebleed territory, are poised to come back down to Earth.”, writes CNN.com news editor Christina Cheddar Berk.

“This time, something different is happening — perhaps a mood of long-term austerity is evolving among consumers sparking a desire to reduce ostentation in everyday settings,” Davis says.

At The Narrow Shoe.com, we were certainly aware of  the shift in the amount of elegant flats that are available in our narrow shoe width, as the Fall/Winter 2011 shoes started to appear.  We’ve decided these are some of our 2011 favorites:

XX

This pointed toed flat, available in beige or black, offers a lovely silhouette. Sesto Meucci has a well known reputation for both fit and comfort! It would look great going from the office to a night on the town when worn with nice slacks or a skirt.

Still on trend for the Fall/Winter 2011-2012 season, animal prints are a plenty. While they’re a bit wild, you’ll still feel refined in these sweet ballet flats from Donald J. Pliner. Crafted in Italy, this narrow ballet flat has a haircalf upper with complementing topline and lace-up detailing on the counter. A bow adds some whimsy. Won’t you look fierce in these trendy animal print ballet flats?! They’re just purrrfect for the woman who wants a narrow ballet flat!

You can go from the office to a night on the town or even a holiday party with these lovely Stuart Weitzman flats. Available in several colors including animal print, they’d look great with a cute dress, skirt or nice pants!

Where do you see the shoe tide turning?  Are you seeing women wearing more flats or more heels where you live, work and play?

Narrow Women’s Shoe Trends Now-Summer 2011

Though it’s flying by fast, Summer is still very much here.   So let’s take a look at the shoe trends we’ve been seeing on the runways, on the stars and in the stores.  This summer it’s all about florals, with other feminine touches such as bows,  jewels, chains, buttons and buckles.  Neutrals continue to be a strong trend with darker neutrals making more a statement this year.   Rope, raffia, jute and cork are big this year as well, as seen in an abundance of espadrille styles.   Sky-high heels are still available but the trend is now heading toward wedges and kitten heels, offering a nice and more comfortable change.

Feminine and Floral

Donald J Pliner - Hadara (Acid) - FootwearNarrow Shoes and Sandals with Feminine Florals,

Bows, Jewels, Buckles and Chains

You’ve undoubtedly seen tons of shoes and sandals in the stores with feminine details.  We’re seeing a plethora of bows, flowers and jewels.  Added to the mix are buckles, bows and chains.  Donald J Pliner - Gmes (Expresso) - Footwear Whether you’re looking for feminine and flirty, or a feminine take on zippers and chains you’re sure to find some pretty bedazzling narrow sandals Sofft - Bermuda (Magenta Velvet Sheep Nappa) - Footwearand shoes for day and night.Vaneli - Pelage (Pewter Satin) - Footwear

Narrow Neutrals

Stuart Weitzman - Platswoon (Hummus Aniline Patent) - FootwearThe Neutral trend has been a constant for about 3 years now during the Spring/Summer season.  While the main focus in the fashion world has been the lightest of the neutrals Naya - Bakula (Taupe Grey Leather) - Footweardarker neutrals have been more prevalent this season — of course many of us wore darker neutrals in seasons past because whether they were on trend or not, not so much for trend setting but because they fit — thus creating our own neutral narrow shoe trend!

Narrow with Natural Elements

Naya - Coretta (Inky Navy/Tan Leather) - FootwearNatural elements, like rope, raffia, jute, cork and wood are also a plenty and in all shapes and heel heights from wedge to Vaneli - Gift (Natural Cork/Platino Metallic Nappa) - Footwearlow heels and to flats.

Narrow Wedges

Naturalizer - Aurelia (Moon Stone Leather/Shiny) - FootwearThe wedge has made it’s way back in all different variations.    From the hemp rope espadrille wedge above to this  leather slingback with the delicate bow,  there are a number of interesting wedges to choose from.

Kitten Heels

Vaneli for Footnotes - Regius - Black Patent Kitten Heel PumpKitten Heels are not easy to find in narrow width.   That’s why we were very excited to find these really cute kitten heels in our narrow width.  Cute kitten heels are a nice reprieve from the sky-high stiletto, which was also hard to find in narrow widths, especially with adornments, like the feminine ones listed above.    We love the shiny patent, the delicate bow and the sweet heel on these.

Woven’s

Stuart Weitzman - Raffiaswoon (Herbal Raffia) - FootwearWoven shoes are back in vogue like these raffia woven platform pumps.  They also can be found in all shapes and heel heights and vary from dressier to very XX casual, they also mix trends such as these leather wedges in a mix of metallic colors and these XX which again mixes trends, woven, rope, wedge and ankle straps.

We hope you enjoyed looking at these narrow women’s shoe trends for Summer 2011. Great bargains are to be had, as many of these great shoes are on sale! Happy narrow shoe shopping!

Rollasole – THE ANSWER When You Can’t Take One More Step in Your Heels!

Silver Rollasole

Pictured here in Silver, Rollasole is also available in shiny Black, Gold and metallic Pink too!

Ladies, we’ve all been there, whether you’re narrow-footed , medium- footed or wide-footed — you know what it’s like to dance the night away at a club,  a wedding,  or another festive occasion, or to have walked all over the city in your most uncomfortable Stilettos all day or…well the list could go on and on…. How many times have you thought about taking off  your painful shoes in the middle of a crowded sidewalk?  Maybe you’ve actually done it– risking frost bite, third degree burns, cuts and bruises and people stepping on your toes, all to avoid yet another second of  the searing pain you’re experiencing from your high heels?

It’s safe to say that most of us have wished with each painful step that we could magically conger up a comfortable pair of flats to wear  instead.  Well girls, our wishes have been heard and granted!

Introducing Rollasole–an amazing rollable ballet flat  that has finally made a huge “splash” here in the U.S.,  after it’s launch “across the pond”  in Bristol, England.   Creator Matt Horan was feeling our pain and more than likely his own when he had a eureka moment after typical Saturday nights  out clubbing with his girlfriend ended with him giving her piggyback rides home because she couldn’t walk another step, either!

“She loved her towering stilettos, but by the end of the night her feet would be suffering,” explains Horan. “So I decided to come up with a solution for both of us and that’s how Rollasole was born.”

“Rollasoles are the shimmery solution to jaded stiletto-sore feet. The unique patented roll up design fits snugly in any clutch and comes with a reusable pouch to carry your heels. Available in four colors: black, gold, silver, and metallic pink, Rollasole is the essential handbag accessory.”

Our site owner agrees! Long before Rollasole made its way over here,  she found them on-line while doing “narrow shoe” research. While Rollasole isn’t a narrow shoe product, per se, she had a strong feeling,  based on the design and shape of them that there was a very good chance they’d fit her skinny feet.   “While I’ve been out of the loop when it comes to clubbing for a while now, which is the main focus of Rollasole’s marketing efforts in the UK,  I thought immediately of other ways in which Rollasoles would also be very useful to me and my friends.  I knew they’d be great to slip on after attending a wedding and the memories of  commuting days past came rushing back to me when I carried around the extra weight of shoes in my already too heavy briefcase to and from work each day.  They would have been great for quick walks to and from the subway, back then!  Even now when I drive to a meeting, certain heels are very uncomfortable to wear while sitting behind the wheel of a car.  Rollasole fits my narrow feet well and has been a lifesaver for me.”

“They couldn’t be more convenient either,”  she adds.  “…they literally can be rolled up into a small thin roll.  A convenient foldable bag that is large enough to fit my painful pair of shoes in, folds up nicely and  fastens around the little roll.  I take it out of my purse, unroll the bag, unroll the Rollasoles, slip off my uncomfortable shoes and then place my them the bag.  Rollasole is  available in sizes 5-6 (S), 7-8 (M) and 9-10 (L).

We’re big Rollasole fans here at The Narrow Shoe.com.  Many of our friends — be they narrow-footed, medium footed or wide-footed, can’t wait to have them for their upcoming social events, including Prom!  Click right here on the  Rollasole name to learn more and to purchase yours!

The Look in Narrow Shoes – Eva Longoria’s Blue Pumps

Back in May, Eva Longoria was photographed while shopping in Cannes, wearing a gray Herve Leger by Max Azria dress, navy blue Yves St. Laurent Palais Platform Pumps and an Hermes Birkin Bag.

We love, love, love, the silhouette, the rich color of this suede pump and that it just so happens to run narrow! Great news for the fashionistas among us who love Yves St. Laurent and may just fit in these amazing shoes! While the Palais’ steep price at $720.00,  it’s steep 5″ heels and 1/4″ platform or the fact that

Yves Saint Laurent Palais Suede Platform Pumps at Saks Fifth Avenue

it only runs narrow may keep many of you away, you won’t want to stay away from the shoes below.   These blue pumps from Salvatore Ferragamo, Stuart Weitzman, J Renee, Cole  Haan and Vaneli, are all available in narrow and offer lower heels, lower platforms and lower price tags!
